The Performance Pyramid
Gray Cook, a renowned physical therapist and developer of the Functional Movement Screen, describes athletic performance in 3 levels. The base level represents your ability to move through fundamental patterns, the middle tier represents your movement efficiency expressed as power, performance, or fitness, and finally, the top tier represents your sport-specific skill. Being underdeveloped in the "movement" tier will limit your ability to perform and improve at the "performance" and “skill” tiers.
