Coach
I learned of CrossFit in 2011 when I was a member of a Globo gym in Sun Prairie. Around that time, I realized the way I was training, along with everyone else at the gym, was more focused on improving aesthetics than on becoming stronger or moving better. All the emphasis on training isolated muscles grew repetitive and uninteresting. I found myself wanting something more challenging, and CrossFit was the answer.
When I arrived at my introductory meeting at CrossFit Sanctify, I thought I was in pretty good shape. During that first session, I did a 7-minute AMRAP (As Many Repetitions As Possible) of 7 box jumps, 7 push-ups, and 7 wall balls. After a couple of rounds, I was doubled over panting like a dog. The coach encouraged me to keep going, but I think he cut me some slack and called “time” before my seven minutes was finished. Needless to say, I was very humbled, but I knew this was just the thing for me. That seven-minute workout challenged me athletically in a way I hadn’t experienced since participating in organized sports in high school. It motivated me to get stronger and into better shape.
Since beginning CrossFit, I’ve also come to appreciate the community aspect associated with it. I have made lifelong friends who both motivate me inside the gym and help make me a better person outside the gym. As a coach, I prioritize ensuring that members have good form on all movements at all intensities, and I emphasize that consistency is the key to reaching one’s fitness goals.
